The Closer

Today's the day for which Netflix employees, supported by bargain-basement celebrities who I've never heard of, had threatened a walkout in protest against Dave Chappelle's special, The Closer. I had intended to watch it earlier, but postponed it until today to mark this non-event.

I timed my viewing to coincide with the start of the walkout at 19:30 CET. It's my little stand in solidarity with freedom of expression. As well as my very own fuck you, ma'am to Terra Field, Ashlee Marie Preston, and their ilk.

Chappelle was funny, moving, and thought-provoking. His final eulogy to his trans friend, Daphne Dorman, who was bullied to suicide by the alphabet mafia—the radical faction of the wider LGBT community—was loving and heartbreaking. The irony is that those activists, and their allies, can be so cruel to members of their own community, if they don't toe the accepted line.

He literally spoke hate speech towards my trans community in his Netflix special. Knowing it would incite and inflict more violence and hatred onto us
