This is my truth

Tits for tats

Nine News, also 9News, an Australian news service, has been heavily criticised for editing a photo of a female member of Victoria's state parliament, to enhance her breasts and show a little more skin.

Naturally, the MP for tarty tats took to social media, complaining about the PaTriArchY aNd MisOGyNy™ of it all. Elsewhere, she clarified that it couldn't be her midriff on display in the altered image, since hers bore yet more tarty tats.

I endured a lot yesterday. But having my body and outfit photoshopped by a media outlet was not on my bingo card. Note the enlarged boobs and outfit to be made more revealing. Can’t imagine this happening to a male MP. What gives?

I can't imagine this happening to a male MP either. Or causing nearly as much furore in the unlikely event that it did.

Anyhow, 9News apologised, explaining that the change was an accident that occurred as the publicity photo was automagically resized in Photoshop, which is quite clearly utter bollocks and was called out as such, although not in so many words, by Adobe. While accepting their apology, Purcell said she remained sceptical of their explanation; which is just as well, because it was quite clearly utter bollocks.

Resizing an image for editorial purposes changes the dimensions of the image as a whole, not the subject's bust. Cropping removes parts of the image, not the subject's clothing.

Hopefully, 9News is clear on that now, and their high editorial standards have been reviewed accordingly.

Purcell represents the Animal Justice Party, and has criticised the state government's rejection of a duck hunting ban. I wonder whether anyone within the 9News team is a duck hunter.
