And it's come to this

Pride and prejudice

An open letter to the Writers Guild of America, from one of its members, is saying the quiet thing out loud. Talent and experience are no longer valued prerequisites for writing gigs, what matters is DivErSitY AnD InCLuSiOn™, even if it's only thinly-veiled division and exclusion.

Consequently, the vogue is for writers from disenfranchised minorities to insert their stories and write their characters—whether or not there's actually a need or audience for them is immaterial. And the more disenfranchised, the better. The mantra within the WGA is: male and pale is stale.

Male and pale is also, on average, around 30% of the US domestic audience. While that's not something the WGA need concern itself with, sooner or later someone with a predilection for enumerating leguminous seeds will start concerning themselves.
