Trump vs Trudeau

The BBC has run a fluff piece on five areas where Canada's prime minister Justin Trudeau and US President-elect Donald Trump have common ground.

  1. They pulled off unexpected election victories after being discounted by rivals and pundits;
  2. They embrace politics in the social media age;
  3. They promised to change the way politics is done;
  4. They harkened to the past in their pitch to voters;
  5. They followed in their fathers' footsteps.

Oh come on Auntie Beeb, you're hardly trying. If you set the bar that low for the degree of simpatico needed to establish common ground, I can offer some more areas where the two might hit it off:

  1. Both of them are men;
  2. Both of them are Caucasian;
  3. Both of them have two arms and two legs;
  4. Neither of them is the Archbishop of Canterbury;
  5. Both of them have a surname that begins not only with T, but with Tru;
  6. Neither of them has climbed Everest—although I'm shooting from the hip on that one!

The list is almost endless.
