Will this madness never end?

Love thy neighbour

A yee-haw in Louisiana shot at children running away from his home, unknowingly hitting a young teenaged girl in the back of the head. It's not clear what part of firing at shadows makes a hit unknowing; pure luck that the shot found its mark, perhaps? It makes it sound like he didn't intend to hit anyone; in which case, not firing into the shadows in the first place would've been a better approach. And people like this are allowed to own firearms in the USofA(rmaments).

Officers learned that "several juveniles were playing hide and seek in the area and were hiding on the neighbour's property", said a press release from Officers at the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office.

Since this was presumably a written press release, and double quotes mean—in my mind at least—a verbatim quotation, then it's reassuring to know that at least the law enforcement of Calcasieu Parish knows how to spell neighbour.

More likely, someone at Beeb Towers unthinkingly corrected the sheriff's office's spelling for them, probably with the help of autofuckup. I'm gonna tag this anyway.

Out of idle curiosity, I checked the press release, and it does indeed appear that someone at Beeb Towers is incapable of simple copy/paste:

CPSO Violent Crimes detectives arrived on scene and after further investigation, it was discovered several juveniles were playing hide and seek in the area and were hiding on the neighbor’s property.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, dated 08.05.2023

What the hell is it that they teach at journalism school these days? (rolleyes)
