Black queen
It appears that not everyone may be enthusiastic for historical revisionism. Channel 5's Anne Boleyn, a reimagining
of historical events leading to the execution of England's first black queen, has not been an undisputed ratings success.
The first of the three episodes was watched by 774,000 viewers, representing a sombre 5.2% of the total UK viewership. That fell by 34% for the second episode, and by a further 11% to 449,000 for the finale, which was beaten in the ratings by a repeated episode of Vera, a crime drama series. This decline in viewers is all the more telling since the episodes were shown on three consecutive nights, which should've maintained short-term enthusiasm.
Whether the poor viewing record is due to the production's woke identity politicking; fanciful plot line; or the reportedly plodding script, is open to debate.
Ah well, ne'ermind. I'm sure that the upcoming reimagined reboot of Alex Haley's Roots: The Saga of an American Family will be better received. Starring Rupert Grint in the role of Kunta Kinte, and Tessa Thompson as the plantation owner, what could possibly go wrong?
