All's not what it seems

Souper

protesters with Heinz Tomato Soup cans
The video on JSO's site notes that the painting remained unharmed, but does nothing to address the callous and wreckless waste of the best soup money can buy. Fucking savages! (angry)

Two spotty greebos protesting for Just Stop Oil threw what appeared to be tomato soup over Van Gogh's Sunflowers painting at London's National Gallery. This what appeared to be tomato soup wasn't just any old common-or-garden tomato soup though, but Heinz's cream of tomato soup. The very best of its kind. Fact!

Of all the tomato soups they could've used, they had to choose that one. Clearly, money and morals are no concern to these peasants.

They should've used Campbell's tomato soup. If it's good enough for Andy Warhol, it's good enough for Vincent Van Gogh. And it wouldn't have been such a waste. (pipe)

In his defence—not that he deserves it—the author of the BBC's article, Ian Youngs, is only an entertainment reporter and therefore cannot be expected to understand the subtleties of commercial tomato soup. Since this story has nothing to do with entertainment—other than that derived from watching a couple of oiks make fools of themselves in public—the BBC would've obtained better-informed coverage by giving it to their culinary or food reporter. They must have one, they appear to have a reporter for everything.
