Souper…man?
27 September 2024

A couple of years ago, two spotty oiks threw what appeared to be tomato soup at Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers in London's National Gallery. Today, as they were being sentenced, three of their Just Stop Oil compatriots repeated their earlier protest, in the same gallery no less, by throwing an orange-coloured soup at Sunflowers 1888 and Sunflowers 1889.

Schrödinger's diversity hire: lezzons in supply and demand
27 April 2024

Richard Meyer has bad news for companies relying on virtue to boost their signal: there's a finite number of lesbians available for diversity hiring. Eventually, the well—or in his words the lez dispenser—is gonna run dry. But that's okay, there's a whole barrel load of other diversities to hire in place of boring white men who only know how to write stories that people want to read.

The life of Brian (trannie)
4 February 2024

Back at the beginning of 2022, Magdalene Visaggio, né Brian, a [cough] transgender grifter; low-rent activist; and social media panhandler, claimed on Twitter—where else?—that Kurt Cobain was also transgender. The claim was based partly on historical shithead rhetoric, and partly on photos showing him wearing a dress while performing. It was the '90s, it was grunge; WTF do you expect Mags, you silly boy?

There must be something about artworks mounted behind protective glass that stirs the passions of environmental protesters into throwing things. Do you really have to be a cynic to think that they're only after media attention without risk of causing any actual damage to the works themselves, and thereby to themselves and their cause? A cheap, low-energy, low-stakes publicity grab, as it were.

Nepo babies
19 October 2023

Gwyneth Paltrow protests that the nepo baby label is an ugly moniker, and that children of famous people shouldn't be judged negatively. For what it's worth, I think they should be judged on their personal merits, and demerits, just like anyone else.

Through nothing other than abject boredom, I started reading Laura Martin's The difficulties facing Hollywood super-producer Ryan Murphy’s TV empire on BBC Culture. At almost 2000 words, it's quite long for what it is. And it's not as interesting as I first thought, especially since I've seen none of Murphy's work. Consequently, I didn't finish reading it; but I did get far enough in to learn that black transgender actress Angelica Ross had a hissy fit on set over a crew member who was operating the vehicle she had to drive on camera wearing a racist T-shirt every day.

I don't know why this qualifies for BBC Worklife per se, other than zoomers have to work like the rest of us, I guess; but Jessica Klein seeks to educate us as to How young people are shaking off gender binaries. The relevance of zoomers to work life, I can understand; their gender binarism is another matter entirely. Unless these attitudes are having an impact on the provision of toilet facilities in the workplace. (confused)

Someone claiming to be Madonna introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras at the Grammy Awards' ceremony—if ceremony isn't too grand a term—when the pair won the Best Pop Duo or Group Performance award for Unholy. For her part, Lawrence explained that she doesn't enjoy press interviews, saying: I’m always very self-conscious of my intellect because I didn’t finish school. I dropped out of middle school. But she'd already made that perfectly clear, earlier in the conversation.

Sometimes Hollyweirdos would be better off not making their personal thoughts, such as they are, public. The latest to come across as completely batshit is director James Cameron. Outrage has erupted over Dave Chappelle's latest Netflix special, The Closer, as he took aim at the alphabet soupers—particularly the T—and the preferred pronoun poseurs. Verily, the dudgeon, it was high; and the salt, it flowed freely and in abundance. You cannot make fun of the trans, it seems.

We are reminded, or informed, for those of us who were blissfully unaware until now, that Keiynan Lonsdale—an actor best known as someone that I'd never heard of before—self-identifies as a tree…FFS, even my sense of humour isn't so perverse as to make this shit up! Lonsdale unironically prefers tree/treeself pronouns, rather than he/him. And the male population breathes a hearty sigh of relief.
